T Styled Me’s Best & Worst Styled Picks: Met Ball 2013

Aside from the Christmas themed party last year, I’m still yet to be invited to attend a full on, hard core, take-the-car-instead-of-the-train themed costume party (Hmm perhaps time to question my popularity?). Have you attended any fun themed parties recently? I love seeing the creativeness in everyone’s efforts and this year’s Met Ball photos felt like I was flicking through FB friends’ (ok, randoms’) dress up party photos seeing as this year’s Met ball was themed – PUNK: Chaos to Couture. I love commitment when it comes to a dress up theme. Go hard or go home …

Cara Delevingne in Burberry

"PUNK: Chaos To Couture" Costume Institute Gala - Outside Arrivals

Cara Delevingne Burberry Punk Met Ball 2013

Aside from the smizing gone wrong in these photos, I do love the way “The Brows” rocks this sleek studded Burberry gown. It’d be my personal choice as an interpretation of Chaos to Couture: Black, studs, Silver hardware you’d expect to find from Camden markets and dark, broody ‘piss off will ya!’ make up. I never understood the fuss around Cara Delevingne as a model (I still remember her from her ASOS days) but respect that she’s stayed true to her London roots wearing Burberry and what can I say, I’ve always been a sucker for long sleeved elegance over side boobage. The look is not overly Punk (I’d expect some leather) and is more on the couture side but I do love her interpretation.

  • Runner up: Anne Hathaway in Vintage Valentino

Kim Kardashian in Riccardo Tisci for Givenchy

Kim Kardashian Met Ball 2013 Riccardo Tisci for Givenchy

It’s the glove. It freaks me out. I’ll probably get clubbered over the head for admitting this or at least get a couple of eye rolls but I’m actually a Kim Kardashian fan. I think she has a fantastic body and well, while I struggle to come up with more convincing reasons, I just do. She has a fabulous figure, even whilst pregnant but I’m sorry – I’m just not forward thinking enough to appreciate it because I think this gown looks horrendeous on her. It doesn’t ‘fit the brief‘ and when you are highly pregnant, with an extremely ample bust, a high neck, floral print is kind of the thing you AVOID wearing right?!. Thank goodness for that thigh high split from preventing her like looking like an 80s couch I hear you exclaim? Well … no, not when it reveals an overly tight strapped matching shoes. I think she could have redeemed herself with a different pair of shoes but *shudder,* it’s that creepy matching glove. I.just.don’t.get.it

T-Styled Me’s Best and Worst Styled Picks: The Oscars 2013

Damn time difference. I couldn’t keep my eyes open long enough to stay awake to watch the red carpet for the Oscars this year (weeeakkkk!) but it was Sunday night and I had watched 7 straight hours of ‘Nashville’ so I eagerly awoke this morning to (a) a barrage of whatsapp messages from my friends back in Aus discussing our friend Chai’s (who you may recall lives in LA from my last post) walk down the red carpet at the Oscars in Hollywood (Just one of the perks she has in her amazing job!) and (b) view all my google alerts of who wore what to the 85th Academy Awards for 2013.

This Oscars has got to be one of the most exciting award nights that I can remember. I loved loved LOVED so many of the gowns that were worn last night and found it terribly difficult to choose a favourite so I decided to rewatch the TV red carpet special to gain more insight on how the stars looked on the night before writing this post. I certainly agree with the media and general public in their consensus of Jennifer Lawrence being best dressed in her incredibly glamorous and OTT yet totally appropriate for being nominated as Best Actress gown but If I were to stay true to my first reaction to the dresses largely driven by personal preference,

Naomi Watts in Armani Prive

Naomi Watts and Liev

I know that of all the awards nights, The Oscars are when the stars bring out the big guns in terms of gowns but I just love the way this stunning custom made silver grey Armarni gown hugged Naomi’s (mother of two) amazingly fit figure and the fact that she chose a gown that was both sparkling and elegant without being outdated. The unexpected one shoulder asymmetrical neckline was my favourite part of the dress and was a design I would expect from Alexander McQueen or Vivienne Westwood and not the usual romantic elegance that is Armarni Prive. I loved that she was still nervous on the red carpet after being nominated so many times and that her husband was taking iphone pics just like a good old regular bf/hubby.

To be honest, I could have easily given the best dressed T-Styled Me award to any of these three  ladies below:

Jessica Chastain in Armarni Prive

85th Annual Academy Awards - ArrivalsYet another gorgeous and amazing Armarni Prive gown. I don’t think you can really appreciate how stunning this dress is unless you see it in real life or on TV. The pictures don’t quite capture the delicate pink sequins and beading on top of the beautiful copper toned gown quite as well as on TV. Jessica’s hair, Harry Winston jewellery gave her bona-fide movie star glamour and I love how the gown complemented her hair so this has got to be a close runner up!

T-Styled Me’s Best and Worst Styled Picks: The Golden Globes 2013

Perhaps it’s because I was blown away by the vocal strength of the performers from the original Les Miserables musical (more than any other show I’ve watched in the West End) and that I had set such high expectations for the movie that I was pleasantly surprised by the musical’s successful translation into film and moreso the live vocal performace of all concerned star characters (Hmm ok, Russell Crowe - not so much) that I now have greater respect for Anne Hathaway as an actress. She seldom puts a foot wrong on the red carpet (hard not to with Rachel Zoe as your stylist!) and this time was no exception.

T-Styled Me’s Vote for Best Styled goes to …

  • Anne Hathaway in Couture Chanel

With her slightly slimmer frame (after losing 12kgs to play the role of Fantine) and refreshing cropped locks, Anne oozed classic romantic elegance in this Couture Chanel  White Peplum gown. The overall look had a both a timeless and feminine feel mixed with a subtle modern and edgey tone. The simple structure of her fishtail gown, with just the right hint of shimmer, juxtaposed against her stylish dark pixie haircut and minimal accessories, drew the right amount of attention to beautiful facial features. The light make up (a perfect hint of pink on the lips) further emphasised her stylish hair and kept the focus on her face and the stunning gown. Despite her flawless alabaster skin, Anne doesn’t looked washed out against the white fabric and it’s really refreshing to see the disregard for fake tan that so often accompanies a white dress and red carpet.

I love the timeless look she’s achieved by dressing in gown that clings to her curves modestly and sits well on her new frame and shape. Her overall style and look is elegant and modern and commands attention without being OTT and loud. In my opinion, perfection on the carpet!

Sienna Miller in Erdem

Sienna is usually one you look to for style inspiration, especially being renowned for her signature boho-chic streetwear so it’s disappointing to see this new mum choose an unflattering, slightly bizarre print of a gown at the Golden Globes this year. Erdem, a British designer, has a multitude of faboulous gowns (I know, I wonder in a daze through this section at Selfridges to then steer myself into a more realistically affordable level)  so I’m curious about the thinking behind choosing this particular Erdem dress. The two piece sillouhette is modern but the fit around the waistline is unflattering on Sienna leaving her looking slightly akward and frumpy. The fabric and print, I’m not going to lie, looks dated and tacky. If they had perhaps altered the neckline, changed the colour of the dress and removed the applique perhaps it could have been salvaged?! Sorry Sienna!

T-Styled me other stand outs on the night were:

  • Miranda Kerr in a Zuhair Murad Burgundy Gown

- #Mirandakerrenvy much? I’m in love with burgundy this season and this particular hue coupled with the silk chiffon and daring plunges and splits looks like it was made for the supermodel’s enviable figure. I love the matching make up and the sky high heels and her ultimate accessory: Orlando Bloom.

  • Naomi Watts in Zac Posen

- What can I say? I’m  cearly partial to burgundy. I love the fit and flare of this Modern Zac Posen gown that skims Naomi’s figure and the subtle hint of back sexy against the modest and elegant long sleeves. Looking amazing in her mid forties!

  • Nicole Kidman in Alexander McQueen

- Don’t love the hair but quite like the unique design of this Alexander McQueen creation. It’s elegant and edgy.

  • Jessica Alba in Oscar De La Renta

- The colour of the dress is refreshing against the pastel pinks and black on the red carpet and I like the complementary make up. Her hair, soft old school Hollywood waves perfectly match the overall starlet’s look. You had me at Harry Winston’s $5.8m diamond necklace…

  • Nicole Richie in Naeem Khan

- I absolutely love the colour, detailing and sleeves on this dress but feel Nicole’s darker tan and icy blue make up don’t do the dress justice. It’s important, when planning a look to get all elements right: hair, make up and gown. I think if she had kept her signature fringe and bun with a lick of bright lippie a more standout look would have been created.

  • Kristen Wiig in Michael Kors

 - Sexy subtle and relatable

What was your favourite look of the night?

I hope you enjoyed my review of the gowns from this year’s Golden Globes and if you’re a fan of musicals and have say 3 hrs to spare, watch Les Miserables but I must warn you, it’s a long movie and they sing every song from the original score …

And just because I’m a bit of a nerd, here are my favourite Trivia Les Mis Movie facts (from IMDB):

  • The soundtrack for a movie musical is usually recorded several months in advance, however in Les MIs, every single song was recorded live on set to capture the spontaneity of the performance.
  • Anne Hathaway’s ‘I dream a dream’ song took 8 hours to film.
  • Anne Hathaway’s mother, Kate McCauley Hathway, played the role of Fantine in 1987 in the US version of the musical.
  • Amanda Seyfried, who auditioned for Fantine but was cast as Cosette, played the young Cosette as a 7y.0 in a concert.
  • Samantha Barks, who plays Eponine, played this role in the West End and in the 25th Anniversary show.
  • Most of the cast of Les Mis in London played extras in the movie.
  • Hugh Jackman personally lobbied for Anne Hathaway after the two performed together at the Academy Awards. She blew away everyone at her auditions, reducing everyone to tears.
  • Hugh Jackman went without water for close to 36 hrs to lose water weight around his cheeks and eye to achieve the prisoner look.
  • Anne Hathaway lived on two slices of oatmeal paste a day  to lose weight for her character role.

T-Styled Me’s Best and Worst Styled Picks: The Emmys 2012

It has been a while since I’ve written one of these posts! I love the fact that I can comment on the Emmy Awards because anyone who knows me well knows that I am a complete and utter TV show addict and this is the perfect opportunity for me to share with you some of my favourite TV shows. Is it sad that I’m perfectly content to stay home (and prefer to do so) to watch my favourite TV with some Chinese take out on a Friday evening rather than go out for drinks and socialise in London?! Anyway, I digress so without further adieu …

  • T-Styled Me’s Vote for Best Styled goes to …

Okay I have to admit that I copped out and couldn’t decide on a best styled celebrity this time around due to lack of inspirational choice. While I was torn over too many choices in a previous post (Cannes Film Festival), I just honestly wasn’t blown away but one single gown so here are my choices for best dressed ladies:

Giuliana Rancic (From E!) in Romona Keveza

Why? The well structured and tailored gown has the elegance of that classic Black dress that will be worn for years to come and you can imagine Audrey Hepburn giving the dress her nod of approval with the addition of a pair of silk gloves. The high split and angled bustier keeps the look contemporary as does Guiliana’s smokey eyes and boxed jewelled clutch. I just wished she would have put on some weight, I mean, bright red matte lipstick to stop her looking so … well, Victoria ‘pre-celebrity-turned-fashion-designer-&-I-wear-my-hair-loose-now-so-take-me-seriously-and-pay-£3000-for-my-bag Beckham’ like. I love G’s onscreen personality and loved watching her reality show with Bill Rancic when they got married in Italy and yes, I watched the Apprentice too! And in case you’re wondering she now has a baby boy, Edward Duke !

Allison Williams (from ‘Girls) in Oscar De La Renta

Why ? Because I’m in love with Fred Leighton Jewellery that she wore and I love the fact that she knows (or her stylist knows!) that with brunette/auburn locks like hers that an emerald green gown looks stunning against her porcelain skin. I loved watching the ‘Girls’ Series and watched the first season within a week, no sleeping styles. The series is about a group of 20-somethings who live in New York and struggle with relationships, their parents, paying rent, making the right life decisions and it is well, a bit raw, confronting and in some scenes, you just cringe, think “awkward” and hastily turn down the volume and go… Whaaat? Did they have to include that scene?! But I love the fact that the characters are so diverse in backgrounds, aren’t overly glamorous and don’t have their *hit together – just like in real life and I admire the fact that the creator, director and writer, Lena Dunham also stars in the series and achieved all this by the age of 26. Girl power!

TSM’s Lust List: Dreaming of … Christian Grey, I mean, Christian Louboutins

I’ve been a relaxing around at home in PJs and bathrobes lately, spending most of my time with family and catching up with friends indoors in the cold weather and I struggle to remember the last time I wore heels. It was probably at least two weeks ago for work and as daggy as I am, my toasty warm feet are loving me as I pad around the house in fluffy slippers making tea and indulging in Arnott’s Mint Slices and Tim Tams as I write this post.

Photo from Wendy’s Lookbook

My friend Chai is a true heels lover, in fact, she’s one of those super women who can can wear heels anywhere and everywhere for full days without a single complaint. That’s an impressive feat (mind the pun!) considering she lived in London and we constantly climbed stairs for the tube, ran for buses and never had the luxury of owning a car for grocery shopping. She always looks great though and I’m envious because I can only manage heels for work, after work drinks (you know, because drinks numb pain) and special occasions. Are you like my friend Chai? How often do you wear heels?

If I could afford these (the answer is no) and my passion for Jimmy Choos, Christian Louboutins was as strong as Chai’s, these would be on top of my T-Styled Lust List for investment heels …

1. Charlotte Olympia Satin Pumps

These are 4” heels are available from

I love that Charlotte Olympia collections have that 1940s feel to them and as I’m not overly adventurous with heels I can imagine these neutral coloured shoes being timeless for times for weddings and parties.

2. Charlotte Olympia Dolly Suede Slingback Pumps

Available at

These gravity defying Dolly shoes have Charlotte Olympia’s signature island platform meaning you’ll be towering over everyone despite still walking on 4” heels. I love Suede as an alternative to patent or plain leather but I don’t think I could walk around practically in these as gorgeous as they are! But I know a lot of you girls probably could!

3. Christian Louboutin Chiarana Cut Out Leather Pumps

While on the topic of black investment heels I came across this pair ….

Photo from Wendy’s Lookbook

Available from

Sigh – Once again I don’t know if I could walk for more than 30 seconds in these 4.5” stilettos but it doesn’t stop me from lusting after a pair of shoes with a red soul, I mean, sole. As  much as I’d like to hate them because they’re so expensive, there’s just something undeniably sexy about owning and wearing a pair of much coveted Christian Louboutins. If I ever get the opportunity to wear a pair of my own, I’ll definitely let you know if it’s worth the fuss!

4. Charlotte Olympia Dotty Suede Pumps – Blush

Love the colour and … these are on sale!

5. Charlotte Olympia Paloma fan-pleat satin pumps

These are available in an array of colours … I love the red!

Available on  and as seen on Olivia Palermo below (in black)

This is one of my all time favourite outfits – Olivia Palmero does Parisian chic beautifully and it doesn’t hurt to have her very suave looking boyfriend Johannes Huebl as an accessory. Photos were taken in March 2012 at a photo shoot in Tuileries Park, Paris.

Photos from Dailymail.co.uk & Opticphotos.com

I don’t consider myself a ‘shoe’ person even though my bf reminds me all the time that I’ve accumulated more shoes in the past two years in London than I’ve owned my entire life time but I just find it hard to say ‘no’ to the variety, quality and designs in Europe and just find them generally really affordable (especially at sale time).

I’d love to own a pair of Christian Louboutins or Charlotte Olympia shoes one day! Do you own a pair of Christian Louboutins ? I’m curious to know how comfortable they are on and how much wear you get out of them … Where’s the best place to get them and would you recommend them as an investment ?

T-Styled Me’s Best and Worst Styled Picks: Cannes Film Festival 2012

The Cannes Film Festival is one of the World’s most prestigious International film festivals held annually in France, premiering documentaries and films of all genres and awarding films coveted awards in various categories based on the votes of a selected board of jurors. It’s a great chance for the stars to showcase designer gowns and for us regular folks to ‘oooh and ahhh’ over the gowns we can only dream of …

  • T-Styled Me’s Vote for Best Styled goes to …

Diane Kruger – On multiple counts by various designers!

Diane Kruger is a first time juror at this year’s Cannes Film Festival and I think she’s done really well (especially since she’s sans stylist) by selecting from a wide range of designers with different looks. It’s also nice to see her step away from her usual Chanel ensemble every once in a while.

It was really hard to choose a T-Styled Me BEST dress seeing as I was equally impressed by most of her choices but if I were forced to choose, I would go with the following dress as my favourite over the very popular Giambattista Valli Haute Couture aqua gown

Vivienne Westwood Corset Dress

I distinctly associate British Vivienne Westwood’s collections as works of Art. With art, you either understand it and love it or hate it or just simply agree to appreciate it. I’m the latter with Westwood; her style is distinct, quirky and definitely not mainstream and I wouldn’t have guessed this a classic Westwood design at all! The tailored cut and structure of the corset dress drew my attention immediately – The craftsmanship is amazing on this dress. It was undoubtedly hand embroidered with paillettes (small pieces of metal) which provides that metallic look which is currently SO on trend. Not only is her tiny waist accentuated by the structure of the corset, but the ruching and folds in the gown also create an illusion that Diane has a much more cury bottom half than she has in reality.

She kept her make up fresh and soft and let the angles of her gown do the talking. Clutch and heels are also from Jimmy Choo (Go Brits!)

Diane Kruger in Giambattista Valli Haute Couture

Diane Kruger in a custom-made drop waist Nina Ricci Dress

I love the romantic ethereal feel of this dress and would love this for myself …

T Styled Me’s Best & Worst Styled Picks: Met Ball 2012

Camilla Belle in Ralph Lauren

Camilla’s elegant and effortless look in this Ralph Lauren gown is emphasized by her subtle (and flawless) make up and I’m really warming up to this sultry wine stained lip colour. She has kept her accessories and jewellery minimal (yet still matching) and I like how the feminine side hair-part kept the focus on the sleek neckline of her beaded gown.

This look would best suit girls with a slim and tall body shape (especially those with a longer torso) and the colouring of the dress would complement girls with darker features. So if your hair colour is dark like Camilla’s and you have a fair to olive skin tone, a dress in this colour would look great on you!
